Summary
In April 2015 the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) supported International Synergies to work with the United Nation’s Environment Programme (UNEP) and associated National Cleaner Production Centres (NCPCs) to provide expertise and tools to enable the implementation of facilitated industrial symbiosis as part of their existing activities.
Impact
Initially developing pilots with NCPCs in Asia, Africa and South America, the project established a framework to develop a ‘global industrial symbiosis programme’, with potential to include all countries eligible to receive Official Development Assistance (ODA) helping businesses (especially SMEs) to adopt more eco-innovative business strategies. GISP was also featured at the G7 Alliance for Resource Efficiency Industrial Symbiosis workshop in 2015.
